Notes:     While the origin of his appellation is uncertain, Apollo Smintheus’s most notable reference is in the opening pages of the Iliad, in which Apollo introduces a plague unto the Greeks on account of Agamemnon’s abduction of Chryseis, the daughter of the god’s high priest in Chryse. When Agamemnon is persuaded to return Chryseis, he replaces her with Briseis, Achilles’ battle prize, one of the contributing factors to ΜΗΝΙς ἈΧΙΛΛΗΟς, the rage of Achilles.
