Notes:     Ex BCD Collection (LHS 96, 8 May 2006), lot 102; MÜnzen und Medaillen GmbH 1 (16 September 1997), lot 155.This city was a longtime ally of Sparta: 200 of her soldiers served with Leonidas at Thermopylai in 480 BC, and another 1,000 fought beside the Spartans at Plataia in 479 BC. Phlious also sided with the Peloponnesian league against Athens, which led to an increase of silver and bronze coinage at the time of the Peloponnesian War.
