Notes:     Choice for issue. A number of types traditionally attributed to Hyrcanus II (63-40 BCE) have been re-attributed to his ancestor Yehohanan Hyrcanus, on the basis of the inscriptions which refer to him as "High Priest of the Jews", not King, a title established by Yehudah Aristobulus (104-103 BCE). These coins are thus the earliest coinage of an independent Jewish state.
